SharePoint Migration Solutions for Grede LLC

Starting with a comprehensive analysis of the issue, I engaged in by speaking with multiple Users about the current state of the business data. Which was being hosted on a SharePoint 2013 server, on-site. Microsoft had given Grede until the end of the year to move all their 2013 Server data to an updated SharePoint Server. The problem was clear, and we were quickly running out of time to fix it!

Dedicating a week to a comprehensive examination of the existing server infrastructure, I documented the architecture, capturing important details such as bugs, errors, and the status of active accounts. Following this, I conducted an assessment of site integrity, cataloging information on orphaned, inactive, and active sites, along with insights into Site Collections. I synthesized the collected data into a comprehensive report, employing written narratives and visual graphs. The outcome was a detailed representation of the server architecture, showcasing its functionalities and serving as a foundational resource for subsequent strategic planning and optimization efforts.

With the analysis of the SharePoint 2013 server's current configuration, I researched to identify the best solution for the problem. Our decision leaned towards leveraging ShareGate, a third-party tool aligning seamlessly with the intricacies of the Migration. This choice was substantiated by its capacity to facilitate pre and post-migration reports, administer the migration process, and execute migrations during non-business hours. The strategic utilization of ShareGate aimed at minimizing the operational impact on the Company, demonstrating a judicious approach to orchestrating a cohesive and efficient server transition.

Having made a structured plan, we designated a specific date and time for the migration, assembling a dedicated support team to oversee the post-migration phase. In a proactive approach to user engagement, we communicated extensively with Site Owners and End Users, providing a clear outline of the migration process. This encompassed expectations, common FAQs, anticipated solutions, and contact information for addressing post-migration challenges. Following the migration's execution, we reinforced our commitment to transparent communication by sending emails and organizing meetings with Site Owners. This post-migration engagement served to validate the successful transition and promptly address any identified bugs, ensuring a seamless and effective integration into the updated SharePoint Server.
